What do I wished I'd done differently in my writing career?
Start earlier! Not that I haven't noodled around with writing since childhood. But only in the last five years have I really dug in deep. Teamed up with a writing buddy, jumped into Nanowrimo, joined a writing community, made this a priority in my life.
Of course, it didn't help that I'd chosen foodservice as a career. A regular suck hole of spare time and energy. Only in the last two years have I finally landed a foodservice job that pays the bills AND gives me regular days off.
Looking back, though, I realize that if I'd chosen writing for a career, I'd probably still would have turned to foodservice or some other job to pay the bills.
And if I had started writing seriously earlier in my life, what life lessons or experiences would I have accurately been able to share? This old head needed all that ripening, patience, and mileage to get my stories going.
At least, that's the story I'm telling myself today! Happy 2022, Blog Hoppers!
I hear you about wishing I had started earlier, at least writing creatively. Writing for business is just not the same. I like the idea that your day job is food service. I'm sure it's tiring and trying at times. Hopefully it provides you plenty of story ideas? Don't get discouraged. Keep up the good work and blessings in 2022! Happy New Year!
I also started writing late in life...but I try not to dwell on it. There are many writers who published their first books at the age of 55+😀
I've wondered about writing earlier in my life but realize, writing came to me when I needed it. Thanks buches for stopping by my blog. Wishing you and everyone the best in 2022!
I also started writing late in life, but I'm trying to be positive about it. Obviously, I wasn't ready before I started. Everything has its own timing, and it is not always up to us to steer it. But it is up to us to try our best with what we have when we have it. Right?
No point in berating one's self for past choices, they can't be undone and as I tell my husband, "I wouldn't be the person I am, where I am without them." (And that includes meeting and marrying him!, lol) Best to use those experiences as we move forward, and/or in writing. Happy New Year.
