Delight and Despair

jvquay

All in a day's work for this writer.

The day I found out I won a little short story contest, people around me thought I'd hit the Powerball. The same excitement lights me up whenever I receive positive feedback from my writing critique group. It's a serious dopamine hit. And to be fair, almost every part of the writing process brings me great satisfaction, even the full-on editing tackle.

That being said, I was smack in the middle of feeling confident in my story edit this Nanowrimo, when I realized I needed an entire redo on a major character. 'A-ha!' moments like that are usually so energizing for me. But this time? Like air farting out of a balloon. Guess I'll be working on this one a while longer.

Good thing I enjoy the process so much....hehhhhhh.

Thanks for reading, fellow bloggers! Hope you find time to write and enjoy the holiday season this year.

Delight and despair? Two sides of the same coin. We have to take the delightful with the stressful - it's part of the overall package - can't have one without the other, hey?😆

Happy Holidays!

So true, Michelle. And in the weeks since my frustrating revelation, I've had a great time reworking that character. Some days the delight comes in the nitty gritty of the work itself. (Nice work if you can get it!) Happy Holidays! Thanks for visiting and replying.

I've never hit a moment where I realized I should re-write a character. I don't suppose it is fun. But if you know it has to be done, it's wonderful you see it now, before the story is out in the big, wide world. Good luck with your re-writing.

Yes, good point. And though I know I'll enjoy the actual work needed to make the change, it's disheartening to feel pushed back such a distance. Olga, my email is jvquay@hotmail.com. Would love to read and give feedback on your work if you want. (I'm not too tech savvy to but I love speculative fiction.) Thanks for visiting my page! Enjoy your holidays!

The idea of rewrites are never fun, and even the process can be harder than the original draft, but once it's done, you usually feel so much better. Best of luck.
